BRIEF BIO

Dr. AMIT AGARWAL is working as a Professor in the department of Endocrine Surgery, SGPGIMS, a premier University Teaching Hospital. He completed his training in general surgery from GSVM Medical College, Kanpur and training in Endocrine surgery from SGPGI. He has visited various endocrine surgery centers in US, Europe and Japan. He has also served as Commonwealth Fellow in Oxford, UK and is the recipient of the prestigious International Guest Scholarship of American College of Surgeons. He is practicing and teaching Endocrine Surgery for the last 15 years and is one of the handful dedicated endocrine surgeons in the country.
He is currently performing state of the art endocrine surgical procedures such as:
  1. Thyroidectomy using energy-based devices (sutureless thyroidectomy),
  2. Neuromonitoring
  3. Focused parathyroidectomy with IOPTH estimation,
  4. Minimally invasive adrenal surgery including retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy,
  5. Minimally invasive pancreatic surgery.
  6. He also carries out comprehensive management of breast cancer including neoadjuvant therapy, breast preserving surgery with Sentinel lymph-node biopsy and breast reconstruction.
  7. Trans-sternal and thoracoscopic thymectomy (VATS) for Myasthenia Gravis.
He has published more than 100 peer reviewed articles in National and International Journals and has written numerous book chapters. He is the founder editor-in-chief of World Journal of Endocrine Surgery. He has also authored a fine textbook “Endocrine Surgery made easy”. His special/research interests include development of training modules for endocrine surgery, study of molecular biology of thyroid, parathyroid tumors, and stem cell transplant for diabetes. He has delivered more than 100 lectures in National and International forums including Mayo Clinic and Harvard University. He is a member of the International Advisory committee of Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons.

  8. Commonwealth fellowship for the year 2000-2001: Under this fellowship worked in the Nuffield department of surgery, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University, Oxford, UK. The project undertaken was “Human and experimental Islet Transplantation”.
  9. UICC Fellowship (ICRETT): Worked in the dept. of Surgery, Division of Cardio thoracic Surgery, Prince of Wales Hospital, Chinese University of Hong Kong (Prof. APC Yim) for Training in Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, July2000 to Aug 2000.
