Medical Educational Unit

The MEU was established to fullfill the MCI requirement however it is envisaged that it will help with continuing medical education and professional development of students and faculty.Infrastructure for Medical Education Unit

  • Preamble: Sanjay Gandhi PGI has always remained in forefront of developing programs and in innovative courses and teaching programs. The need for medical education unit (MEU) was emphasized by the medical council of India in 1997. The concept was then developing and clarity came only after 2012 when MCI made the course mandatory for teachers of medical institution under purview of MCI. For this unit MCI has issued guidelines to be followed, however the MEU thus established, can further enrich its scope. In continuation of the rich heritage of the institute, we propose to initiate the unit and hope to expand its reach in medical education.

 

  • Physical Infrastructure:

The MCI has proposed the basic minimum infrastructure to be allocated for the MEU. These are enumerated below.

  • The Medical Education Unit is to be housed in an appropriate area which can accommodate around 30 participants in a workshop format and should have the following equipment’s:
  • Two Multimedia PCs internet enabled with colour Monitors Computers will be utilized for the entire media operation, i.e. for connectivity with printers, digital photography and scanners. It should have video-editing facility Multimedia projector
  • Screen for projection Scanner + printer + copier
  • Laptop
  • Magnetic Board /flip boards
  • Overhead projector
  • PA system with cordless mikes (2) and Collar mikes (2)
  • Proposal for creation of the MEU infrastructure:

The unit must be established in the place that has the potential for expansion. The creation of infrastructure is suggested as following.
3.1       Location: It can be conveniently located in the new library building. This will provide ample space with scope of expansion.  
3.2       Space:

  • One meeting room.
  • One hall that can seat at least 50 people. It will also require 50 chairs and tables.
  • Office space with chairs, table, wardrobes and cabinets. It should seat at least 2 office staff

3.3       Equipment:

  • Two Multimedia PCs internet enabled with colour Monitors Computers will be utilized for the entire media operation, i.e. for connectivity with printers, digital photography and scanners. It should have video-editing facility
  • Multimedia projector
  • Screen for projection Scanner + printer + copier
  • Laptop
  • Magnetic Board /flip boards

  • PA system with cordless mikes (2) and Collar mikes (2)

3.4       Manpower:

  • Office assistant           1
  • Data entry operator     1
  • Orderly                        1
  • Sanitation staff           1

Budget:

An annual budget to be allocated separately for procuring at least subscription of 2 journals of medical education suggested from the following
(a) Medical Teacher
(b) Medical education
(c) Academic Medicine
(d) The Clinical Teacher
(e) BMC medical education
Books for medical education at least 10 in number.
